Established in 2014 by John Pattinson who has been providing Structural Design and Draughting services for over 35 years. With a strong emphasis on functional design, the aim is to provide a high quality service to our clients especially within, but not restricted to, the Oil & Gas, Marine and, more recently, Sustainable Engineering, after being involved in the detail design of the HVDC Converter Platform for the Norfolk Boreas Windfarm Project.

Norfolk Boreas Offshore WindFarm Project
Due to his experience in the use of stressed skin design and construction, in marine vessels and offshore structures, our Lead Designer played a pivotal role within the detail design team of the HVDC Converter Platform for the Norfolk Boreas Windfarm Project
Arctic LNG 2 - Novatek
The ARCTIC LNG 2 Project comprised of three Gravity-based Structures (GBS) terminals (i.e., 3 LNG TRAINS) and the associated marine infrastructure located at Tazovsky District of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Region (YNAR) (Russia). A fixed nearshore terminal for production, storage, and offloading of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and stabilised gas condensate (SGC) on gravity-based structures (GBS) and a seaport to harbour the PLANT and provide for LNG and stabilised condensate offloading to LNG carriers and condensate tankers.
Based in Technip's office in Paris, Pattinson Structural Design were involved in the FEED and detail design of the Pipe-racks and sea-fastening grillage.


Clair Ridge - BP
BP required oversight of the construction of the Clair Ridge Platform modules QU (Quarters & Utilities) & DP (Drilling & Production) and connecting bridge, whilst under fabrication at the Hyundai Heavy Industries, (HHI), yard in South Korea. As part of a Site Support team, our Lead Structural Designer was engaged to ensure modules were fabricated in accordance with the design specification.
This was achieved by acting as liaison between BP and HHI, reviewing HHI produced fabrication drawings; resolving site queries; preparing work instructions; completing non-conformance reports and conducting weekly module walkdown inspections.
This enabled HHI to meet required UK offshore fabrication standards.
Pattinson Structural Design continued their involvement in the project to the hook-up phase, where we provided an onshore support role.
Global Combat Ship - Type 26 - BAE Systems
Working within the Change Management Group to implement all Change Requests (CR's) i.e. modifications and updates to the vessel model and fabrication drawings.


Chirag 1 - Conventional Gas Lift Project - BP
Providing engineering solutions for the design, fabrication and installation of steelwork associated with the new flexible pipeline being introduced to provide gas lift facilities on the BP Chirag-1 platform.
Creating 3D models and 2D drawings of all associated steelwork e.g. under deck ESDV platform, manifold PAU’s and additional deck steelwork.
Provided destruct and removal drawings for safe and efficient removal of redundant items.

Working within a secure environment to deliver all structural modelling and draughting deliverables in accordance with BAE & Lloyds standards.


Greater Ekofisk Accommodation Platform GEA 2/4L - Conoco Phillips
Ekofisk 2/4 L is an accommodation and field centre platform in the Ekofisk Complex. Ekofisk 2/4 L, with its 552 beds, all in single cabins, is the largest accommodation platform in the North Sea. In addition to the accommodation facilities, the platform also contains a number of field centre functions and systems.
Our Lead Designer was involved in the detail design/fabrication of the Topsides at Sembcorp Marine & Offshore Engineering (SMOE), yard in Sembawang, Singapore. Also acting as Interface between design and fabrication departments to provide clarity and resolve queries. Deputising for the discipline lead and managed structural group during his absence.
L205 Accommodation / Service Jack-Up & L206 Construction Jack-Up - Conoco Phillips
Based in the Master Marine Fabrication Yard in Batam, Indonesia in a QA/QC role, ensuring fabrication on the 2 Jack-Up rigs was performed in accordance with ABS standards.
Engaging with fabrication managers to resolve any queries and conducting daily vessel inspections, checking and approving design / fabrication drawings and resolving site queries.


Sakhalin II Project - SEIC Consortium
Consisting of 2 platforms; Lunskoye-A (Lun-A) and Piltun-Astokhskoye-B (PA-B), this project posed particular challenges due to the extreme environment in which the platforms were to operate and the Arctic engineering principles needing to be applied.
After spending some years on the detail design phase our Lead Structural Designer, later to become Structural Discipline Lead on the project, was engaged to oversee the fabrication completion engineering and module Hook-Up.

Experience & Expertise
An experienced Structural Designer, with a proven track record of designing, delivering and assuring offshore/onshore greenfield and brownfield construction projects, including topside, subsea and drilling modules for major Oil & Gas organisations, including BP, ConocoPhillips and Shell with the ability to work in design office and fabrication yard environments. Key strengths include; creating 3D CAD models and 2D CAD design and fabrication drawings; providing design and fabrication solutions and procedures for challenging situations; supervising teams of structural designers to deliver high quality engineering deliverables (3D model & 2D drawings) on time and within budget; providing engineering support and QA/QC services to fabricators to ensure modules are fabricated in accordance with design specification; engaging with fabrication teams to resolve constructability issues and acting as Discipline Lead and Inter Discipline Co-ordinator when the situation dictated.

Highlights
BP required oversight of the Clair Ridge Platform fabrication at the HHI yard in South Korea. Engaged as Lead Structural Designer to work in a QA/QC, Structural Checker role to ensure modules were fabricated in accordance with design specification. Reviewed HHI produced fabrication drawings; resolved site queries; prepared work instructions; completed non-conformance reports; and conducted weekly module walkdown inspections. Successfully enabled HHI to meet required UK offshore fabrication standards and continued on the project to the hook-up support phase, executed from the Aberdeen office, as Principal Structural Designer.
SEIC’s Sakhalin II project, was transferred from Korea to Russia/Indonesia. Engaged as Lead Structural Designer / Structural Lead to facilitate fabrication completion engineering and hook-up. Originally worked as Senior Structural Designer on design phase in UK; managed structural departments in Sakhalin & Jakarta; achieved timely completion of all structural job packages; attended weekly inter discipline progress meetings and tele-conferences with client; and mentored local personnel in practical design and fabrication methods. Successfully delivered project on schedule, including additional drilling packages not in original scope.
ConocoPhillips commissioned SMOE as EPC contractors of the Greater Ekofisk accommodation platform. Engaged as Lead Structural Designer to oversee team of structural designers to produce, from the FEED Study, 3D model & 2D design/fabrication drawings using PDMS and AutoCAD. Assigned and checked subordinate’s work; Attended weekly progress meetings; interface between structural and fabrication to provide clarity and resolve queries; mentored junior personnel in PDMS and practical design and fabrication methods. Successfully kept project on schedule and in accordance with design specification as demanded by NORSOK.
